FCSFFL 2008 – My Team

This is my 1st of 3 fantasy football teams. This is the league with guys from where I work. It’s an 11 team league that focuses on scoring: 10 pts for a TD, 20 pts for a long TD (50+ yds). FG are 5 pts for 0-39 yds, 10 pts for 40-49 yds, 15 pts for 50-59 yds, and 20 pts for those rare 60+ yds. KR/DEF are 20 pts for TD (KR, PR, int, or fumble recovery) and 5 pts for safety. However, we also give 10 pt bonuses for 300 yds passing, 100 yds rushing, 100 yds receiving, or DEF shutouts. DEF also get 2 pts for each take-away.

Here’s my team:
Cutler, Jay DEN QB
Hasselbeck, Matt SEA QB
Schaub, Matt HOU QB
James, Edgerrin ARI RB
Lewis, Jamal CLE RB
Morris, Maurice SEA RB
Portis, Clinton WAS RB
White, LenDale TEN RB
Colston, Marques NOS WR
Galloway, Joey TBB WR
Marshall, Brandon DEN WR
Moss, Randy NEP WR
Royal, Eddie DEN WR
Williams, Reggie JAC WR
Folk, Nick DAL PK
Longwell, Ryan MIN PK
Cowboys, Dallas DAL Def
Raiders, Oakland OAK Def

Overall, I’m pretty happy. RB is my weakest area – heavy on age and injury proneness while light on depth. WR is my strongest area – especially if Denver has a year like they are expected to.

FCSFFL 2007 – My Team

This is my 3rd of 3 fantasy football teams.

Even though this is an 11 team league, I thought the draft went better than either of the previous 2 drafts. Here’s what I ended up with.

Pos Player Team
QB Ben Roethlisbeger PIT
QB Jon Kitna DET
QB Rex Grossman CHI
RB Steven Jackson STL
RB Rudi Johnson CIN
RB Ronnie Brown MIA
RB Ahman Green HOU
RB Brian Leonard STL
WR Larry Fitzgerald ARZ
WR Lee Evan BUF
WR Anquan Boldin ARZ
WR Chris Chambers MIA
WR Devery Henderson NO
WR Drew Bennett STL
PK Stephen Gostkowski NE
PK Josh Scobee JAX
D/ST Rams STL
D/ST Bills BUF

Quarterbacks
No super stud QB, but lots of depth. Even though I don’t like Roethlisberger, I’ve got him in another league and so I figured I might as well get him (since I waited too long get one of the sutd QBs). I also got Kitna who I like A LOT in Mike Martz’s DET offense. However, I can’t stand Rex Grossman. WAY TOO INCONSISTENT !!! However, I only need him for week 6 when the other 2 are off. He has MIN at CHI that day. I REALLY like that match-up.

Running backs
RB is the strength of my team. With SJax, Rudi, and Ronnie Brown, I should be totally dominant at the RB position. Green provides depth, and Leonard is insurance in case the unthinkable happens.

Wide Receivers
I’m not sure what to think about my WR. I think they’ll put up tons of yards (and I should get a lot of 100 yd bonuses form them). But, will they get in the end zone? If Leinart improves like he should, I say YES. I’ve also got decent depth with Henderson, Chambers, and Bennett.

Place Kickers
I waited until near the end to grab a PK. Less than 20 pts separated the 12th best PK from the 2nd. That’s just over 1 pt per week. Since Elam was gone when I was ready to get a PK, I waited until the last possible moment (i.e. right before I thought guys would start going after back-up PK). And I still got the 5th best PK available. Gostkowski isn’t a household name, but he gets the job done.

Kick Return / Defense Teams
I didn’t get CHI or BAL, but I got almost the next best thing. I got the St. Louis Rams. I know. I know. You’re probably thinking that I’m on crack. Maybe, but consider this: they improved on DEF and they picked up return specialist Dante Hall from KC in the off season. They should be the most improved DEF/ST in the NFL this year.

Overall, I like this team the best. I feel really good about it. I should challenge for the league title this year.

WFL 2007 – My Team

Last Wednesday night, I had my 2nd fantasy football draft of the year. Like my last draft, this league is also scoring only: 10 pts for a TD, 20 pts for a long TD (50+ yds). FG are 5 pts for 0-39 yds, 10 pts for 40-49 yds, 15 pts for 50-59 yds, and 20 pts for those rare 60+ yds. KR/DEF are 20 pts for TD (KR, PR, int, or fumble recovery) and 5 pts for safety.

The draft went better than Sunday’s draft, but my team isn’t as good as it could be. Here’s what I ended up with in our 10 team league.

Pos Player Team
QB Tom Brady NE
QB Daunte Culpepper OAK
QB Trent Green KC
RB Rudi Johnson CIN
RB Laurence Maroney NE
RB Fred Taylor JAX
RB De’shaun Foster CAR
RB Julius Jones DAL
WR Roy Williams DET
WR Donte Stallworth NE
WR Deion Branch SEA
WR Santonio Holmes PIT
WR Devery Henderson NO
WR Drew Bennett STL
PK Jason Elam DEN
PK John Kasay CAR
D/ST Bears CHI
D/ST Titans TEN

Quarterbacks
No depth, but so long as Brady does what he’s done for the last several years, I won’t need any depth. I really wanted a big time QB in this league (to make up for what happened on Sunday – see previous post). Brady was there at the middle of the 1st round after the 2 stud RBs I wanted were gone.

Running backs
After getting Brady in the 1st round, I spent the next few rounds focusing on RB and WR. I really like my 2 starters (Johnson and Maroney). Not sure if any of the others will get in the end zone, but they will at least get touches.

Wide Receivers
This is my weakest area. I like Roy Williams. However, the others are all good, solid NFL receivers that should get catches and yards, but may or may not see the end zone (kind of like my #3, #4, and #5 RBs). I got a hook-up with Stallworth, and I like the deep threat Holmes is in PIT. I also think Bennett will have a good year for STL with Holt’s knee problems and Bruce’s age.

Place Kickers
Elam is the best and most consistent in the business. Kasay is also pretty good.

Kick Return / Defense Teams
I took an early pick on CHI. If they do what they did last year, then I won’t need more than Williams at WR. CHI is head-and-shoulders above the rest of the pack. I’m hoping for REALLY good things from them this year.

Overall, I should do pretty well this year. I might be good enough to win it all. It’s hard to say. I think I’m good for 2 or 3 wins and a few 2nds and 3rds thrown in there – assuming of course that everyone stays healthy. If I lose Brady or one of my RB, then I’m done.

FGFFL 2007 – My Team

Last Sunday night, I had my 1st fantasy football draft of the year. Our league is scoring only: 10 pts for a TD, 20 pts for a long TD (50+ yds). FG are 5 pts for 0-39 yds, 10 pts for 40-49 yds, 15 pts for 50-59 yds, and 20 pts for those rare 60+ yds. KR/DEF are 20 pts for TD (KR, PR, int, or fumble recovery) and 5 pts for safety.

The draft didn’t quite go as expected, but I think my team’s ok. Here’s what I ended up with in our 10 team league.

Pos Player Team
QB Ben Roethlisberger PIT
QB Brett Favre GB
QB Jeff Garcia TB
RB Ladainian Tomlinson SD
RB Travis Henry DEN
RB Adrian Peterson MIN
RB De’shaun Foster CAR
RB LenDale White TEN
WR Marvin Harrison IND
WR TJ Houshmandzadeh CIN
WR Deion Branch SEA
WR Santonio Holmes PIT
WR Mark Clayton BAL
WR Kevin Curtis PHI
PK Jason Elam DEN
PK Matt Stover BAL
D/ST Dolphins MIA
D/ST Bills BUF

Quarterbacks
This is my weakest area, in my opinion. I’m not a big fan of Roethlisberger, but 6 QBs went in the 1st round (P.Manning, Palmer, Brees, Brady, Bulger, and Rivers). I was hoping for one of those 6 to be there in the 2nd round. After that, I figured I could wait a few rounds.

Running backs
My 2 starters should be in the top 5 in the NFL this year. After that, it’s kind of a crap shoot. I wish I had a little more depth. I like Peterson, but he is a rookie. Foster COULD get the bulk of the time in CAR, but D’Angelo Williams is there too. And TEN has a revolving door at RB, although the job is LenDale White’s to lose.

Wide Receivers
I like my WRs A LOT, too. Harrison, Houshmandzadeh, Branch, and Holmes should be solid week-to-week. Clayton will be the #1 in BAL, but they don’t throw TDs much. And Curtis SHOULD be huge in PHI.

Place Kickers
Elam is the best and most consistent in the business. Stover is right behind him. How I ended up with BOTH of these guys, I’ll never know.

Kick Return / Defense Teams
If you can’t get CHI or BAL, then, as far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t matter who you’ve got. MIA and BUF are both solid. I wish I could have snagged the Rams, but I’m not really emotionally attached to any KR/DEF team.

Overall, I should do OK this year. I probably don’t have a good enough QB to win it all, but I should do well enough to win 2 or 3 weeks with a few 2nds and 3rds thrown in there.
